WHAT: 2011 Wood Bat Cactus Classic, an open baseball event presented by H2 Baseball.
WHERE: Tucson, Arizona, Kino Sports Complex
WHEN: February 3-8, 2011
ROSTERS: Teams welcome or individual players assigned to teams; minimum player age is 30 but teams have specific roster age requirements:
- All teams may have 5 players younger than 45 (at least 30).
- All teams must have at least 3 players 60 or older
- All other players teams must be at least 45 years of age
- Pitchers must be at least 45 years of age
- No limit on rosters, but H2 Baseball maintains the right to add pool players to rosters to meet age requirements or to balance number of players and ages on all rosters.
Format
GUARANTEES: 7 9-inning games guaranteed. Pool play Monday through Thursday plus Friday-Saturday playoffs, with Championship game Saturday afternoon. Playoff format will be determined by the number of teams competing. See Schedule for the Week page.
RULES: Official rules of baseball with some modifications that recognize the wide range of ages involved as well as promote a level playing field for all concerned. See Wood Bat Cactus Classic Playing Rules.
ROSTERS: Minimum roster is 13 players.
AWARDS: Team receives a $500 waiver to a future H2Baseball event, or members of championship team receive personalized baseball wind shirts and hats.
What’s unique?
LOCKER ROOM: All players will have a locker in a MLB spring training locker room with access to trainer services, daily laundry, continental breakfast, and post-game icing as well as adult refreshments. Teams lockers will be grouped together, based on registrations received by January 27. (Team lunches can be catered but are not included in the fee.) All Players will receive a Locker Room Gear welcoming gift in the color of choice.
PROFESSIONALS: H2Baseball has contracted with former professional players to participate in the Wood Bat Cactus Classic. Coaches & instructors for 2010 include Keith Comstock, Bob Didier and Mark Parent, who have a combined 25 years Major League Baseball playing experience as well as coaching and managing following their active playing years (See Players Biographical Sketches). During the Wood Bat Cactus Classic, they will be involved as 1) instructors in the scheduled training sessions, 2) be available for baseball bull sessions before and after daily sessions and in the evenings at the host hotel, 3) the prosecutorial and judges in the Kangaroo Court, and 4) will tour the dugouts during games and be available for questions, suggestions and general baseball gabfests.
KANGAROO COURT: Tuesday through Friday mornings, Kangaroo court will be held in the locker room at 8:30 a.m. with the honorable 3-judge panel of Comstock-Didier-Parent presiding; and a final court will be held during the Wood Bat Cookout at the end of the week. Participation is voluntary but encouraged … and all proceeds go to the Roy Hobbs Foundation, which distributes 99% of its donations to programs involving Leukemia research and programs for handicapped youngsters and adults playing baseball.
LOCKER ROOM RECEPTION & STEAK-OUT: The Wood Bat Cactus Classic will start with a reception for all players in the Locker Room on Sunday evening, a chance to meet the staff, learn where everything is and what the guidelines for the Locker Room and the tournament will be … and to meet our guest professionals. The Wood Bat Steak-Out will be held either Friday or Saturday evening at the Locker Room along with final Kangaroo Court. Guests will be welcome at the Steak-Out for a nominal cost.
